Comments: These four texts show recent study of metaphor and music. Adlington and Spitzer deal with metaphor in the musical soundscape of the composition while Schippers and Sheldon deal with metaphor in music teaching and performance. The latter is an area less studied and is where my research is being conducted.

•Steen, Gerard. Finding Metaphor in Grammar and Usage : A Methodological Analysis of Theory and Research. Amsterdam; Philadelphia: J. Benjamins Pub. Co., 2007.
-
Comments: Clear outline of theories so far, clear outline of the research field; dealing with all the questions I could imagine myself asking when reading about metaphor theories, the book helps to organize these questions and guides by taking a methodological stand in metaphor research.

Comments: Gives a clear overview of the different dimensions and perspectives that metaphor theories cover. Interesting insight to complement cognitive linguistics with relevance theory.

•Littlemore, Jeannette & Low, Graham (2006): Figurative Thinking and Foreign Langue Learning. Houndmills, Palgrave Macmillan.
-
Comments: This book is perfect for all those researching metaphors in foreign language classrooms. The first part answers questions like "Why is figurative thinking important for foreign language learners?" The second part connects figurative thinking to the five competences of Bachman's (1990) model of communicative language ability.
