The deadline for submitting abstracts for the 7th RaAM seminar, to be held in Liège (Belgium) in May 2019, has been extended to December 2nd!
The 7th RaAM seminar will be held at the University of Liège on 16 and 17 May 2019..
The theme of the seminar is Metaphor studies at the intersection of multiple disciplines. The seminar aims to highlight the intrinsic interdisciplinary nature of metaphor studies by questioning its cross-fertilization potential: what kinds of theoretical and methodological insights can metaphor studies bring to other scientific disciplines? Does the contribution of metaphor go beyond the conceptual and linguistic structuring of abstract concepts that are central in these disciplines? Moreover, what can metaphor studies gain from these privileged contact with different disciplines, theoretically as well as methodologically? And above all: do metaphors really matter in our understanding of social interactions?
Plenary speakers are:
- Dr. Christian Burgers (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)
- Dr. Cristina Soriano (University of Geneva)
- Dr. Seana Coulson (University of California, San Diego)
In line with the theme of the seminar, two methodological workshops are organized, focusing on the identification of visual metaphor (dr. Marianna Bolognesi) and the use of surveys (dr. Jérémy Dodeigne).
