Short bioPaula Pérez-Sobrino is cognitive linguist interested in the study of figurative language at the intersection of images, words, and sounds. In her research, she designs experiments to test how people understand metaphors (in terms of appreciation and effectiveness), as well as how they react to them (in terms of the emotions triggered, and changes in attitudes and behaviour). Likewise, she also looks at individual and group differences (including variables such as age, nationality, gender, cognitive abilities) as sources of variation in the reception of metaphors and other types of figurative framing.

In addition to her research and teaching as lecturer in Modern Languages at the University of La Rioja (Spain), she collaborates with the Joint Research Centre (European Commission), the Spanish Research Agency, and as supervisor at the Intercultural Linguistics doctoral programme at Eötvös Lórand University in Budapest.
